I’m going to deal with a few issues that people have with adverts/advertisers.
The old site for the forums is closing soon and all the mods are coming across adverts which state what the advertiser wants but that same advertiser doesn’t respond to any replies.
Some advertisers are very very specific in what they are asking for. Some advertisers aren’t so specific. So should an advertiser always respond to every reply even if the replier isn’t offering what they want or should they not bother to repond if its not what they want.
Its difficult because if you have been specific – why should you reply if a respondant isn’t offering what you want? But then you may be considered a timewaster or just simply rude. Maybe they only reply by private message.
Then there are advertisers who say they want anywhere but then reply “oh its not an area we want” to a respondant.
So what are your thoughts? Do you have any answers?

Tough one!
I do think it’s polite to acknowledge that you’ve read their post but on the old forums we were only allowed to have 30 posts on each ad before it got shut down so why waste the extra space to say no thanks?
I do however think that it is just courteous to say ‘no thanks’ and if someone else offering the same kind of property in the same area was to see that then there would be no need for them to leave a reply also.
I do wonder though if it was a case of them not seeing the replies sometimes as it was quite difficult to remember who you’d sent a message to on the old forums. At least on the new one you can ‘watch’ topics so you will always have a list of where you’ve posted and who you’ve spoken to.
As for the people who post that they’ll go anywhere and then say it’s not an area I’m looking for-some people will put in the title ‘consider anywhere’ and then on the post will say ‘as long as it’s in…’ It’s a way of getting people to at least read their post and then you get a better chance of finding something. As long as those people acknowledge that they’ve read the post then I don’t see a problem with it. I don’t think they are wasting anyone’s time unless they reply and ask for pics and postcode and THEN say ‘no thanks it’s not an area I’m looking for’…
It’s all about etiquette at the end of the day. If you reply to someone’s post and then don’t get an answer, just remember how it feels when you don’t reply to someone else asking about yours.

I really don’t understand why a lot of people do this …. they put their advert in and sit and wait for replys to their ads! When you reply to them …. explaining what you have …. they don’t bother to answer you??? Why? If they are serious about moving then they would jump at any chance they had of getting another place. In the areas we are looking for … well they are like gold dust to get hold of. Also the majoritory of them are looking for a mansion, with 10 beds, 5 bathrooms and a jaccuuzi in the garden by the patio. They also want to have their own valets and personal maids on hand 24/7. Forgot to add they want 5 acres of land ….. and of course not on an estate!!!

joyceannett your post made me giggle because what u say is sadly very true. I dont understand why people put up adds and dont reply to their posts either and i find it very frustrating as im serious about moving and the only reason i wouldnt reply to a post is because i couldnt accsess my pc. And as for the estate thing well that ones really bugging me as i think people should look at a house and the area before judeging it

We are DESPERATELY looking for a ahome in Blackpool but I am doing research in visiting the place and sussing out the areas I want first…and I WOULD answer every ad…but i would expect them to read MY ad PROPERLY first. If they haven’t – then they shouldn’t expect me to reply properly! I am serious – why should I waste my time on timewasters?
